  1. Always have an alternative heat source--and the fuel for it.
  2. It doesn't hurt at all to have an alternative source of electricity.
  3. NEVER drive your personal vehicle home and park it when it is low on gasoline.
  4. A freezer will NOT keep meat, even if it is outside, when temperatures around it are greater than 32 degrees.
  5. Keep bottled water on hand
  6. Keep a stock of foodstuffs that can be eaten with little or no preparation.
  7. Keep plenty of blankets and warm clothing on hand.
  8. If at all humanly possible, keep a reserve of cash.
  9. Have paper checks as well as your checkcard. ATMs don't always work.
  10. Plan for the comfort and safety of pets or livestock as well as humans.
