- Always have an alternative heat source--and the fuel for it.
- It doesn't hurt at all to have an alternative source of electricity.
- NEVER drive your personal vehicle home and park it when it is low on gasoline.
- A freezer will NOT keep meat, even if it is outside, when temperatures around it are greater than 32 degrees.
- Keep bottled water on hand
- Keep a stock of foodstuffs that can be eaten with little or no preparation.
- Keep plenty of blankets and warm clothing on hand.
- If at all humanly possible, keep a reserve of cash.
- Have paper checks as well as your checkcard. ATMs don't always work.
- Plan for the comfort and safety of pets or livestock as well as humans.
